Which Therapy Is Right for You?

massaging patient
There are several popular styles of therapeutic massage. Each one has its own unique characteristics, focus, techniques and principals. Some styles are more effective for specific goals than others. So how do you know which one is the best for you?

Rita, like most experienced massage therapists, uses various techniques in a session according to the needs and goals of her clients. Sometimes the needs and goals may change from session to session. Rita is versatile and able to vary her techniques as needed. This versatility is the best way to reach the patient’s goals and achieve optimal health.

Relaxation/Swedish Massage Therapy

This is the most common type of massage. Specific strokes are used to release dysfunctional holding patterns. Characteristics include: long strokes, kneading, friction techniques for the more superficial muscle layers, and active and passive joint movements. This therapy promotes general relaxation, improves blood circulation and range of motion, and relieves muscular tension.

Myofascial Therapy

This type of therapy works with the muscles and the fascia to relieve pain in the body’s musculoskeletal system. Myofascial therapy rebalances the body by releasing tension in the fascia. Characteristics include: light and moderate pressure to warm the muscles, encouraging them to lengthen, and stretching strokes to release muscular tension.

Trigger Point Therapy

This technique applies concentrated pressure to “trigger points” (painful, irritated areas in the muscles) to break cycles of spasm, pain and lactic-acid buildup. Trigger point therapy uses a combination of other modes to help increase circulation.

Pregnancy Massage Therapy

Prenatal massage shares many of the goals of regular massage. These goals include: relaxing tense muscles, easing sore spots, improving circulation and mobility, and just making you feel good. But it’s also tailored to meet the specific demands of pregnant women and their changing bodies. Rita is trained in prenatal massage and will adjust her techniques and pressure according to the needs of each client.

back massageDeep Tissue Therapy

This therapy focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue with the goal of releasing the patterns of chronic tension. Its characteristics include slow strokes and deep elbow and forearm pressure on concentrated areas. The strokes either follow or go across the grain of the muscle fibers, tendons and fascia.

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy™

Ashiatsu is a barefoot massage technique that employs deep strokes. The therapist’s feet glide over the client’s body, figuratively milking toxins from the muscles. Ashiatsu is meant to feel like a deep Swedish massage, with deep, broad pressure and flowing strokes. Overhead bars are used for support and balance. The bars afford the therapist full control over the pressure being applied.

If you love deep tissue work but can’t find a therapist who goes deep enough, Ashiatsu therapy is the perfect solution. It is the ultimate in deep tissue massage. Ashiatsu is effective for full-body relaxation and especially good for relieving chronic muscle pain. Ashiatsu strokes create a push-pull-pump effect, focusing on the soft tissue that surrounds the spine and hip joints. As a result, every muscle spasm is relieved. Additionally, the traction created by these strokes lengthens the spine, thereby giving the nerves more space. This space alleviates pressure, which may be causing pain.

An Ashiatsu session involves deep tissue massage and deep myofascial stretching. This alleviates chronic tightness while increasing range of motion and stimulating the body’s natural healing potential. It is truly the deepest, most luxurious massage on the planet! Basalt Stone Therapy

This is a specialty massage that uses smooth heated stones. They are often basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs heat well. The hot stones absorb and retain heat well, creating a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage. The heat helps release tight muscles.

Ashiatsu Hot Stone Massage – New!

This is a new option that involves an Ashiatsu session followed by a relaxing hot stone massage. It will help your muscles relax. It will also help remove metabolic waste from your tissues. After the session, please make sure you give yourself plenty of time to rest and drink lots of water. This type of massage is only booked as a 90-minute session.
